NBC News/Peacock Productions, which produced the show for Oxygen, called on SRI to consult and perform a thorough crime scene investigation during the filming of the ‘The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers,’ currently airing on the Oxygen network (owned by NBC Universal).
Did you see Oxygen’s premiere episode of ‘The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers’ this past weekend? The five-episode series is an investigation into the sudden disappearance of a mother, Crystal Rogers, and the subsequent shooting death of her father, Tommy Ballard, 16 months later in Bardstown, KY. The first episode aired on August 11th and immediately garnered national attention and intrigue. Reruns of that must-watch episode are scheduled for Friday, August 17th (9:00pmEST) and Saturday, August 18th (8:00amEST).
Because of SRI’s, expertise, knowledge, experience and reputation in the state of Kentucky, NBC News/Peacock Productions reached out to us for assistance with their documentary about Crystal’s case and the other murders that may be tied to her disappearance. Our team provided guidance to the Peacock production team while collaborating with a retired detective, a journalist, and community groups to find answers.
In the first episode Joey was explicitly asked, “What can you do for us?”
His answer: “We can fingerprint the [Crystal’s] car. It will need to be chemically enhanced to see if there’s any DNA evidence back there.”
Shelly Rice, our highly trained crime scene investigator and other team members, used technology to discover invisible evidence. Joey told the Oxygen series’ hosts, “I don’t look at an object to see what’s there, I go to see what’s out of place.” That newly discovered evidence was sent away for processing and the results will be showcased later in the series.
Set your DVR for the next four Saturday nights to watch Joey and the SRI Crime Scene Investigation Team help attempt to crack this case for Bardstown community and the Ballard family.
The second episode will air Saturday, August 18th at 7pm, the third August 25th at 7pm, the fourth on September 1st at 7pm, and the finale September 8th at 7pm.

You can also watch Megyn Kelly Today where Kelly interviews Sherry Ballard, Crystal’s mother and Tommy Ballard’s wife alongside Brooke Bryan, Crystal’s sister, to explore more specifics about their experiences in the days before and after Crystal disappeared and when her Tommy was killed.
