Recently, the SRI digital investigation team was hired to analyze and give testimony in a case where the defendant was charged with murder. We realize that in virtually every case there is some type of digital evidence that can be vital to proving or disproving a case so our vision has always been to be on the forefront of digital technology and training and always stay equipped with the best program and hardware available in the field.
SRI’s Jason Woods, a highly trained licensed and certified, digital forensic expert investigator, took the lead on this case. Jason thoroughly analyzed the defendant’s phone using Cellebrite technology. He was able to estimate the devices location based on the cell phone towers the device was connected to during specific time periods. There was also a question about metadata (embedded information stored in the file itself) that applied to images that were found on the phone.
Following the investigation, Jason Woods gave expert testimony regarding the approximate location of the phone and responded to questions about metadata (embedded information stored in the file itself) that applied to images that were found on the phone.
The jury found the defendant Not Guilty on all charges. This decision of the jury was heavily based on Jason’s investigation and testimony given about the information on the phone.
This verdict led the client to send this response:
“Please let Jason know that Mr. _____ was found not guilty of all charges, largely because of his testimony!!! The work that Jason provided was exceptional and I’m so happy for all of his help.”
