SRI has been working with a KY physician for several months.
During our investigation, we’ve learned that the KASPER (Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting) system, which is heavily utilized by law enforcement, has some very serious issues. A KASPER report shows all scheduled prescriptions for an individual over a specified time period, the prescriber, and the dispenser.
KASPER is a reporting system designed to be:
- A source of information for practitioners and pharmacists.
- An investigative tool for law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
However, entries that are made into the system regarding prescriptions are commonly made in error. In fact, these errors are so common that the state agency responsible for maintaining the KASPER system – the Office of the Inspector General – has a section on its website for reporting KASPER errors (see below). For physicians, this means that they will have to routinely check their reverse KASPER to check for errors, a very time-consuming process. If you are a physician or other individual who has been wrongfully accused, we are here to help.
