Air Brake System Failure Settlement
SRI was hired by Jon Hollon (Kentucky Personal Injury Attorney) to assist on a severe traffic collision case where a truck’s air brake system failed.
This case not only challenged our team but gave us the opportunity to do things that we’ve never done or considered before. In order to reconstruct the failure, we purchased the parts and built a complete functioning air brake system in our office. Our team created a forensically accurate 3-D animation which visually and audibly depicted the movement and sounds of the truck at the scene as well as visually depicting the data from the engine control module. We were able to accomplish this reconstruction by using Trimble Forensics Reveal software.
This forensically accurate 3-D animation of the truck’s movements was enhanced with ECM switch information, speed readings and sound by utilizing Hit Flix software. The combination of Trimble Forensic and Hit Flix software gave us a precise visual and audible animation of what occurred at the time of the collision.
The sound in this video was recorded from an exemplar truck and the beeping you can hear was the low air warning alarm that sounds for the driver to hear – alerting him that the brakes were failing. This animation was the subject of numerous challenges and withstood all resulting in a confidential, substantial settlement just before going to trial!
